How to Avoid a Drunk Driving Conviction on the “Biggest Bar Night of the Year”
It is Thanksgiving Eve, everyone. As such, many of us will be traveling to our hometowns to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends and, accordingly, tonight is unofficially known as the “biggest bar night of the year” (click here to read more). Thanksgiving Eve is a great opportunity for friends and family to reunite around the holiday. Just remember, however, to drink responsibly and to have a designated driver or you might end up making the kind of memories you would just as soon forget.
Drunk driving is dangerous (for yourself and others in your car or on the road) and expensive. The State of Michigan estimates a drunk driving conviction costs $10,000. The cost of taking a cab is a bargain by comparison. The police are keenly aware that tonight is the biggest bar night of the year and will be out in full force. You can rest assured that there will be a heavy law enforcement presence in Muskegon, the Grand Rapids Arena District tonight (McFadden’s, BW3, Grand Rapids Brewing Company, Hopcat, as well as on Leonard and Bridge Street), and in the small towns like Allegan, Ludington, Pentwater, Hart, Fremont, Newaygo, and Big Rapids, where the police will carefully scrutinize anybody driving away after leaving the bar. The police will be looking for any excuse to stop drivers who may be under the influence of alcohol. Again, drink responsibly, have fun, and take a cab, use Uber, or have a designated driver.
In the event you do intend to drive tonight, we suggest you review our article on what to do if you are pulled over so that you are prepared for law enforcement encounter.
