Feds Increasing Prosecutions for Undocumented Immigrants

Criminal prosecutions for undocumented immigrants are up 10% since 2012 and more than 50% since 2008, according to analysis of deportation statistics by WoodTV.  Click here for linked article and related video.  This despite the fact that deportations are down overall.  While I.C.E. (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) claims they are merely targeting “violent criminal aliens” and the most “egregious offenders,” it is the government that determines who qualifies as “violent” alien or “egregious” offender and, consequently, who is prosecuted for immigration-related offenses.  Any federal criminal charge is a serious matter, but deportation, or removal, from the U.S. has very serious consequences as well, e.g., loss of employment, separation from family and friends, denial of subsequent re-entry into the U.S.  If you or someone you know is facing federal criminal prosecution or an immigration-related offense in Grand Rapids or the surrounding area, contact one of Springstead Bartish & Borgula Law’s experienced federal practitioners for a free consultation. #immigration #federalcriminalcharges #ICE
